The Race of the Methow, a 2-day race weekend for skiers of all ages, is back and is now organized by the Methow Valley Nordic Team. All activities will again take place at Liberty Bell High School, with racing on the adjacent McCabe Trails. The race is an official Junior Nationals Qualifier for J2-OJ (ages 14-19) skiers in the Pacific Northwest Ski Association. The race is also for J7-J3 skiers (ages 6-13), and adult skiers.

All racing on Saturday is freestyle. J5-OJ skiers will do sprint format and J7-J6 skiers will do a mass-start, short "Lollipop" race.

Adult skiers will do a new team sprint format on Saturday. The team sprint format (adults only) will have three-person teams. Skiers may form their own team, or be placed on a team by the race director. Each person on a team will ski two laps, tagging the next person on their team (or finishing) at the end of each lap. It is like a relay race where each skier goes twice instead of once.

All racing on Sunday is classic. All ages will do mass-start format races of appropriate distance for their age group.

Age Groups
Racing age is based on how old the skier is on December 31, 2012. For example, if a girl is 14 on December 31, her racing class for the 2012-13 season is Female J2 (14-15). If a boy turns 16 on January 1, 2013, his class is Male J2. See the table at the bottom of this page for a complete listing of junior age classes.

Adults will have scoring and awards by gender and 10-year age groups for Sunday's classic race (20-29, 30-39, etc. up to 70+). For Saturday's team sprint race, scoring will be by 30-year age groups for the combined age of the three racers, regardless of gender (60-89, 90-119, 120-149, 150-179, 180-209, 210+).
